Tell us about your background with CASTO
I started with CASTO back in April of 2023 working with John, Craig, and Michelle in the tax department. Eight months later in January of 2024, I started working in the property accounting department under Sophia, although I did still help the tax team wherever I could. In July of 2024, I packed up and moved from Columbus down to our Sarasota office to join the CASTO Net Lease team as their new development controller, which I believe is where my professional experience really took a leap forward.
What do you like best about CASTO? What makes CASTO different?
I think my favorite experience so far at CASTO was the guacamole contest back in May of 2024, mainly because I won and got a Chipotle gift card, but I also felt like this was representative of why CASTO stands out. From past experiences in the accounting industry, it is very easy to get caught up in the work I’m doing, so much so that it felt like there was nothing more to it than that. CASTO does a great job of coordinating events, like the guac contest, that remind us that while the work we’re doing is important, there’s a lot more to being a member of the CASTO family than just the day-to-day work.
What service or project have you liked working on the most while at CASTO?
The project that I have enjoyed being a part of the most is the CASTO Net Lease Properties portfolio. I’ve only been working as part of this team for about a year and a half, but in that short time the growth I’ve been able to witness and be a part of has been immeasurable. The experience I’ve gained from the past year and a half will be invaluable for the rest of my career, and I look forward to the future of this portfolio and my place in it.Â
Share a little bit about your expertise in the industry.
CASTO is my first job out of college, so my experience in the accounting/real estate industry was limited to the few internships I had throughout college. Everything I do on a day-to-day basis I learned from the great people I am surrounded by. One of my favorite aspects of my current role is that as the portfolio continues to expand, I am constantly learning and growing along with it.Â
What changes or trends do you see happening in your area of expertise?
From a general standpoint, I think an emerging trend that almost everyone in the professional world is learning to deal with is artificial intelligence. Since its emergence is relatively new, I don’t think anyone has a complete understanding of the changes that will follow. While I am interested in seeing how this affects the world of real estate accounting in the coming years, I do remain a bit apprehensive as to exactly how much corporations will begin to depend on AI’s automation for processes that have historically been handled by employees.
