Associate Spotlight: Jessica Schaefer
In this month’s spotlight, we’re thrilled to introduce you to one of the dedicated members of our residential team, Jessica Schaefer. Jessica plays a crucial role on our residential team at the Glenmuir apartment complex. Her contributions have been pivotal in ensuring resident satisfaction and retention as well as managing the efficiency in day-to-day operations.

Tell us about your background with CASTO.
I started CASTO in 2015 and found out about a week after I started that I was pregnant with my daughter, Zyla. I was so scared to tell a group full of people that I had just met that I was expecting a baby. I was scared they would think this would change the dynamics of my work ethic and excitement, but I was shown the exact opposite. Lesley, my property manager at the time, threw a baby shower for me. The residents here at Glenmuir actually did the same- got together and surprised me with another baby shower that was so special! I have never felt more love or support working for a company than I have with CASTO. The lifelong friends I have made are truly irreplaceable. I have grown so much in my years with Casto. I started out leasing, moved up to Assistant Manager, and then up to Property Manager of my favorite property. Glenmuir is so sentimental to me, I met my wife here and proposed to her in front of the clubhouse!
What do you like best about CASTO? What makes CASTO different?
There isn’t just one thing I could say I like best about CASTO, there are too many to list. However, if I had to choose one, it would be the support you are shown. In my opinion the goal for CASTO is to see their associates grow. You have so many people you can call, even if you have a silly question. Someone is always there to walk you through a situation.
What project have you liked working on the most while at CASTO?
My project has been and always will be seeing Glenmuir grow with the times. We were built in 1996 – it has been amazing to be here through the years and change little things and see the difference it has made. In June, we are starting renovations so I do feel that will be my most favorite project. I look forward to seeing the positive difference it makes for Glenmuir!
Share a little bit about your expertise in the industry.
I feel like my greatest expertise in this industry is customer service. I feel that the smallest of things can set you apart so much from other property managers. Take the time to talk to someone! Just sit down and listen, and care about the person. Listen to their wants and needs. Be the shoulder for them that they need to trust you to be the person who will make their living situation the very best it can be. Go out of your way to do something helpful to that person. In my opinion that far outweighs any sales training course you can go through. I am not a person who likes to be pushy or try to sell something for the incentive. I want to be honest, inviting, and a face that my residents can trust. I have never had an issue getting a vacant apartment leased in doing all the fore mentioned. So, I do feel it works!! Just be yourself. People love that more than anything.
What changes or trends do you see happening in your area of expertise?
I do see CASTO relying a little more on social media, texting options for the residents, the resident portal app, and being able to fill the applications out online. Things that make tasks easier for residents or more “with the times” always are a huge hit!!
