First Tenant At River & Rich Opens To Public

ROY G BIV Gallery for Emerging Artists Opens May 3

Columbus, OH — CASTO announced today that its first tenant at River & Rich, ROY G BIV Gallery for Emerging Artists, is opening to the public on Friday, May 3, 2019.

“We are thrilled to announce that ROY G BIV will be opening to public! We believe ROY’s mission of supporting emerging artists through exhibition opportunities and education is aligned with our goals of bringing more opportunity for arts to the already vibrant and creative neighborhood,” said Brent Sobczak, President of CASTO Communities.

ROY G BIV nurtures artists who choose to live and work in Ohio and who might not otherwise be able to find a venue to exhibit their work.  Artists who exhibit at ROY G BIV receive education, feedback and constructive criticism from jurors, the public, their peers and often the press. Inclusion in a ROY G BIV exhibition can be the opportunity that an emerging artist needs to make that first big step up to gain commercial gallery representation — and many have done so. 

“I’m excited to kick off the new phase and growth of the gallery,” said Roy Gottlieb, Treasurer and longtime Board Member at ROY G BIV. “Although relocated, ROY G BIV remains committed to serving as a platform for emerging artists. This is an opportunity to grow the ROY G BIV community in a Columbus neighborhood that’s becoming more and more known for its arts culture.”

For over nearly 30 years, ROY G BIV has been a fixture in both the Short North and Columbus’ arts scene. By moving the gallery to Franklinton, it will bring hundreds of emerging artists to the area. ROY G BIV is located at 435 West Rich Street Columbus, Ohio 43215 and occupies 2,048 square feet at River & Rich, more than doubling their previous square footage at their Short North Gallery.

“We’re excited about a bigger and better space to give back to the artists, a place that is modular and flexible, and to be a part of a town so focused on the arts,” said J.D. Beiting, Board President of ROY G BIV.

The new gallery will be having a celebration of ROY artists from 1989 until now, showcasing the diverse talent that has made ROY the home for thoughtful, innovative work it is today. The showcase and grand opening will be held on Friday, May 3 and will begin at 7 p.m. Street parking and garage parking will be available for guests.
